Design + Climate | Snook + Community

  • Barbican Frobisher Room 5, Level 4, Silk St, Barbican, London EC2Y 8DS London United Kingdom (map)

About the session

Our planet is in peril and we know design can help. From making the sustainable thing the best thing to imagining new forms of activism, the tools and skills of service designers are critical to imagining positive futures and orchestrating the means by which we get there - together. Understanding and accepting that climate change is happening can be depressing and stressful. We want to educate people that their professional work can make positive change, even if their organisation or project is not entirely focused on sustainability.

Over the past 4 months, we have built a global community of 150+ service designers who are testing and experimenting with tools and methodologies to consider the environment at every stage of the design process. From making the environment a key stakeholder to reflective environmental pauses in project check-ins, this workshop will build upon the library of tools that we are producing and equip participants to take ideas and insights back to their own practice. We aim to transform our industry into one that is human and planet focused, and build hope and positivity while taking direct action in these uncertain times.

Key learnings

  • Contribute to the development and application of practical tools, methodologies and mindsets for participants to take away, test and refine.

  • Influence and shape the dialogue around service design’s role in facing the climate crisis.

  • Become a part of our inspiring, activated and growing community.
